Position:  Part-Time Caretaker/Maintenance Person

About Kirkridge

Kirkridge is located on 217 acres of land (including 107 acres protected by permanent land easement through The Nature Conservancy.) This is the ancestral land of the Lenni Lenape people. We can host approximately 100 people on campus in double occupancy rooms in four separate meeting/dining and housing locations that range from the westward facing Nelson Lodge at the top of the mountain, to Turning Point facing the rising sun, to the historic Farmhouse located at the lower level. Four additional living/residential spaces are also maintained by the retreat center.  We have hiking paths throughout the property and are located along the Appalachian Trail

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Caretaker/Maintenance person carries the following duties:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, protection, and improvement of buildings, grounds, and equipment
  • Accomplish or coordinate routine plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and painting. Work with the Executive Director to obtain the estimates and services of skilled trades people to undertake complex repair, construction, or renovation work when required.
  • Maintain contact list of firms/individuals to contact for more extensive work.
  • Work includes, but is not limited to raking, shoveling, power washing, painting, and pest control.
  • Be ‘on-call’ for property and building emergencies during programs and rentals and coordinate with other staff for coverage.
  • Responsible for opening and closing buildings for programs and rentals. This includes unlocking and locking buildings, removing trash and recycling, turning on/off heat, and doing walkthroughs of the buildings. 
  • Assist with the set up of meeting spaces for groups and events as requested. 
  • Work collegially with volunteers and other staff. Interact courteously with Kirkridge guests.

Job Type:  Part-time, average of 20 hrs/wk 

Compensation: $20 an hour 

Schedule:  This position requires flexible availability.  Candidate must be available on the weekends to be “on-call” for property and building issues that come up during facility usage or for sidewalk snow removal during the winter.

Experience:

  • Training and/or experience in several trades 
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Background check as requested
