Lenten Book and Bible Study: Jesus’ Last Week
With Jean Jeffress
March 30, 2025
Cosponsored with Plymouth UCC Jazz & Justice Church in Oakland, CA
We will not cede Jesus to Christian nationalism.
In this time when the gospel, distorted beyond recognition, is wielded as a weapon against beloved members of the Body of Christ, we will come together to learn about a radical and little-known Jesus. Together, we will walk day-by-day through the last week of Jesus’ life, using the gospel of Mark and Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan’s book The Last Week as our guides.
This is an explicitly queer and trans-affirming space, and you do not have to be a card-carrying Christian to join.
Here is the schedule of meetings and the corresponding readings from The Last Week:
Reading assignments:
March 9: Chapter 1 (Palm Sunday)
March 16: Chapter 2 (Monday)
March 23: Chapters 3 and 4 (Tuesday & Wednesday)
March 30: Chapter 5 (Maundy Thursday)
April 6: Chapter 6 (Good Friday)
April 13: Chapters 7 and 8 (Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday)
Each session will be 90 minutes long. This book study is free and open to the public. A donation will be taken for Kirkridge and Pymouth Jazz and Justice Church.
You can purchase the book at our Bookshop.org affiliate store to benefit Kirkridge.
