The Daniel Berrigan Collective for Contemplation, Community and Resistance and the Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center invite you to Advent Political Vespers. Our gatherings are inspired by a project of Dorothee Sölle, German theologian and friend of Daniel Berrigan. Between 1968 and 1972, Sölle and her collaborators in Cologne gathered a group of what to come to number over 1,000 people to pray Vespers, the traditional Evening Prayer of the Church, and to reflect together on the pressing political issues of their time. As they expressed it, “Politics is at the heart of that which is called Christian piety. We wish to de-privatize the Church’s proclamation of the faith, so that it may become politically effective.” In that spirit, the Daniel Berrigan Collective will gather people by ZOOM on three Sundays of Advent- DECEMBER 4TH, DECEMBER 11TH and DECEMBER 18TH, to pray, listen to preaching, and to reflect. Please register for each date on their own individual registration page. The gathering will start at 7:00pm ET and will last one half hour with the option of another half hour for people who may want to stay online and reflect together.
